After a bad wind storm, we lost the back end of one of our traditional red barns. Hatch came out and did an estimate. They arrived on scene about two weeks later - the demo was weather dependent. It took two days to get the large barn down, burned and covered - this included removal of concrete foundation and flooring. Two days later, another team member came out and graded everything down. These folks were super professional. Asked lots of questions about what stayed and what went. And they are VERY reasonable in cost which EXACTLY matched the estimate. Received a bill about a week later which is good - I've worked with some construction companies that take forever to invoice you. Super, super happy with these folks and HIGHLY recommend them.

Do my excavation or grading projects require permits in Dysart or Benton County?

What permits are required for septic systems?

Septic systems in Benton County require approval through the Benton County Environmental Health Department and must meet Iowa Department of Health and Iowa DNR regulations. This includes soil evaluations, system design approval, and inspections.

Who is responsible for calling in utility locates (811)?

We handle calling Iowa One Call (811) for our excavation areas before any digging begins. This service marks public utilities such as gas, electric, water, sewer, and communications lines.

Are all underground lines marked by 811?

No. Iowa One Call marks public utilities only. Private lines—such as septic laterals, propane lines, well lines, irrigation systems, drainage tile, invisible pet fences, and private electrical—are typically not marked and must be identified by the homeowner.

What happens if rock or unsuitable soil is encountered?

If unexpected conditions such as rock or unsuitable soil are found, we notify you immediately, explain options, and provide transparent pricing before continuing.

What happens to demolition debris?

Debris is sorted and hauled to approved disposal or recycling facilities. Concrete and metal are recycled when possible, in compliance with local regulations.

How far in advance should I schedule my project?

Smaller residential projects typically require 2–3 weeks’ notice, while septic or larger site development projects may require 4–6 weeks, depending on permits and inspections.
